AMC 10/12A Tomorrow 2/7/19

We are proud to announce that Areteem Institute has been chosen to host the American Math Competitions 10A/12A (AMC 10A/12A) this year. These important competitions are the first step in any American math student’s journey towards the country’s most prestigious invitational math exams and competitions, like the American Invitational Mathematics Exam (AIME) and ultimately the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO). We are excited to offer this opportunity to our bright and promising students.
Each year the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) offers two versions of each competition: AMC 10A/12A and AMC 10B/12B. These exams are used to determine eligibility for the AIME, with the top scoring 2.5% of the AMC 10 and top scoring 5% of the AMC 12 qualifying for the invitational exam. Students can take both the A and B versions of the AMC 10/12 exams in the same year and use either exam to qualify for the AIME. With many schools offering only the “A” version of the exams, your student can double their opportunity to qualify for the AIME by also taking the “B” version at Areteem Institute.

Areteem Institute aims to challenge gifted students in science and mathematics. Many of our students go on to attend the nation’s top colleges where they receive an elite education. Job growth in the STEM sectors is at 75%. Having a strong math and science foundation increases a student’s chances of getting into the school of their choice. It puts them on the fast track to their dream school. For students who pass the AMC 10/12, the acceptance rate into a school like MIT is 90%. Our math textbooks are helpful tools for the AMC, AIME, and USAMO contests.

The California Association for the Gifted is hosting a conference later this month, February 22-24. MAA recommends that if your school does not offer the AMC, to lobby your gifted and talented education program coordinator, or if your school has a math club to use that to get your school to offer the AMC. If your school does not have a math club, consider starting one.

What is the AMC 10/12?
The  AMC 10/12 are the first in a series of competitions that eventually lead all the way to the IMO, the pinnacle of all high school mathematics competitions. The AMC 10 and AMC 12 are both 25-question, 75-minute, multiple choice examinations in high school mathematics designed to promote the development and enhancement of problem-solving skills. Please contact  amcinfo@maa.org directly for qualification related questions.
