{"id":1329,"date":"2016-11-08T21:24:31","date_gmt":"2016-11-08T21:24:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/areteem.org\/blog\/?p=1329"},"modified":"2016-11-08T23:16:18","modified_gmt":"2016-11-08T23:16:18","slug":"focus-college-application-essay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/areteem.org\/blog\/focus-college-application-essay\/","title":{"rendered":"A Focus on the College Application Essay"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Recently, we came across an article published this week on <em>Business Insider<\/em>\u2019s website by Yale graduate Abby Jackson, on the magazine\u2019s education team, that highlights some key points from conversations on Reddit concerning the college application essay. Stacey Brook, founder of the company \u201cCollege Essay Advisors\u201d, answered some users\u2019 questions about what they should focus on when writing the essay that asks \u201cwhy\u201d a student wants to attend the college they are writing the personal statement for. This article comes at an appropriate time as Jackson states, \u201cThe White House\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/the-press-office\/2016\/10\/28\/presidential-proclamation-national-college-application-month-2016\">issued a presidential proclamation<\/a>\u00a0on Friday deeming November National College Application Month. As students work to finish their applications, many will struggle with how to approach their essay topics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One piece of advice of Brook\u2019s that Jackson mentions:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;An effective answer to this question\u00a0<strong>addresses two main areas: pointed interest and good fit.<\/strong>\u00a0And it all begins with research!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brooks goes on to say that when students do their research on the colleges they are applying to that they should find reasons to explain literally why they want to attend.
