The MATHCOUNTS team competition has various levels that compete throughout the school year. Much of the knowledge needed for MATHCOUNTS overlaps with the AMC 8 and AMC 10/12 competitions. We recommend any student preparing for MATHCOUNTS should also prepare for the AMC 8 and AMC 10 or 12.

Students starting out with MATHCOUNTS and wishing to improve at the school and chapter level should start by preparing for the AMC 8.

Students confident in their ability to succeed at school and chapter MATHCOUNTS should follow the guidelines below for preparing for the AMC 10/12, which will prepare them for state and national MATHCOUNTS.
